METHOD

How to make it

  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Pour in lemonade to about two-thirds of the glass.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of berry syrup, taste, then add up to 1 tablespoon more if needed.
  4. Add the berries, stir and serve immediately.

Recipe notes

  • Chill your lemonade and syrup beforehand: This keeps everything icy cool and minimizes the melting of your ice.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste: Not everyone’s sweet tooth is created equal, so start with less syrup and add as you go.
  • Serve immediately: Freshness is your best friend here, so mix these beauties up and serve them right away to capture that just-made magic.

Optional homemade mixed berry syrup

This makes a batch of syrup; use only 1–2 tablespoons per drink.

Optional homemade syrup

Combine 1 cup mixed berries, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain and cool completely before using.

This makes a batch of syrup, not one serving of the drink. Use just 1–2 tablespoons per glass. Cooking and cooling the syrup take additional time beyond assembling the lemonade.

Substitutions

Use your preferred brand of lemonade and mixed berry syrup. Raspberry or strawberry syrup changes the flavor but can work as a berry variation; start with less and adjust to taste. Frozen berries can replace fresh berries and help keep the drink cold.
